Learn Chinese with ChinesePod

I've been using ChinesePod since May 2008. When I first started, I didn't know a word of Chinese. In October 2009 I moved to China, and I was amazed at how much I could actually understand. The locals often guess that I've been living in China for years, which is such a confidence booster--I've only been here couple months!! And I really owe it all to ChinesePod! I've studied several languages, but I've never enjoyed learning a language so much or learned as quickly as I have with ChinesePod. The lessons are fun, as well as short as easily digestible. I often listen to new lessons on the bus, review dialogues from previous lessons while at the gym, and review by studying the online material (expansion sentences, quizzes, games, writing practice) at home. I highly recommend ChinesePod to anyone. They have the most innovative language learning system I've ever seen. It really works! I absolutely love it! Try it out their 7-day free trial for yourself! --Matthew

Nciku is a completely free, online dictionary designed for learners of Chinese. Just hover over definitions to see the pinyin pronunciation. You can listen to audio of not only the entry words, but also many example sentences. Look up words in any number of ways (by typing hanzi or pinyin,, searching by radical, handwriting the characters, by English). Above and beyond being a dictionary, Nciku offers tools and resources, such as (printable) flashcards of words you've bookmarked, situational dialogues, character lessons, and an extensive Q&A community of users. If there's one online dictionary you'll soon find you can't live without, it's Nciku. I highly recommend it!

Byki (Before You Know It) is by far the best vocabulary training program on the market. A user-friendly interface helps you create flashcards for any words or phrases you want to learn and remember. Byki uses a highly intelligent SRS (spaced repetition system) to help you schedule reviews and tests for maximum memorization efficiency. A number of challenging and fun games help you internalize words. The software also comes with 1000 premade flashcards with audio in the languge of your choice. Regardless of which languge you choose, you can make your own flashcards for any language. I've been using Byki for several years, and I can't imagine studying a foreign language without it! Before you purchase the Deluxe version, try out Byki Lite for free.
